A/N ››››› I hope you all love this story as much as I do. Special thanks to @bobfloydsbabe & @veetlegeuse for letting me use Jas and Clara and Layla. Also yes, there is a lot of swearing at the beginning, but it does die down some!
"Has anyone told you how beautiful you look tonight?"
Jesus Christ, she couldn't catch a break today.
Audrey's eyes seemed to roll of their own volition–a natural reflex to the bullshit line. If she wasn't so goddamn done with today already, maybe she would've had the capacity to fully ignore the disphit, but as it was, she was here instead of her apartment, watching her bartender relive his glory days of fighting in Nam with two other AARP members instead of doing his fucking job.
"Because if not, that's a tragedy," the guy to her left continued, stepping close enough for her to tell that he was, predictably, wearing a khaki uniform. Because of fucking course he was.
"Fuck off," Audrey dismissed, her gaze fixed on the empty pint glass dangling from her bartender's wrinkled hands. She already had too many men in khaki in her life, including one who bore a passing resemblance to this asshole with his gelled blonde hair and inability to take a fucking hint.
"Honest," the aviator pressed. He slid even closer, his physical resemblance to Jake fading as he did so. His jaw was softer and nose was broader, making him more "babyface farmboy" than "Texan manchild."
"There aren't a lot of girls who can make a button up and pants look so effortlessly sexy."
It was the rampant misogyny that made her finally turn to look at him. Her eyes roving over what was presumably supposed to be a charming grin, down to his golden name tag that read ORMSBY.
"Like what you see?" he quipped, and Audrey's eyes flicked up to meet his, her lips twisting into a scowl at the cliche.
"Fuck. Off," she repeated, this time more slowly as she enunciated each sound of the command.
The grin stayed fixed in place, even as he raised his hands up in mock defense. "Sorry, you're right. We were talking about how gorgeous you are."
"Oh my God," Audrey muttered, turning away from him and hoping to catch her bartender's eye. He had made it a few steps away from the other Golden Guys but was still clearly too entrenched in conversation to actually do something as complex as pour a beer.
"Want me to get his attention?" Ormsby asked, and Audrey's head snapped towards him.
